D-Hand Carved Makau Fish Hook on base

Beautifully hand carved, solid wood fish hook features a cord-wrapped top with monkeypod wood base.  The 11-1/2" hook is attached and lashed to the wood base that measures 5-1/2" x 3".  It looks the same on both sides to display from either direction.

In Polynesian myth the god Maui used the makau to pull up the islands.  It is a symbol of beauty, strength, prosperity and fertility.
